"What is a Private Investigator?"
To put it simply, a PI or Private Detective is a professional that has access to knowledge bases, techniques and tools for finding and collecting information. Through experience a PI is able to read situations or people. PI's are commissioned by The Courts, Solicitors, Local Governments, Companies and Insurance underwriters as well as Private clients such as yourself.
"Why would I use a Private Investigator?"
Usually you will have a problem, worry, concern or simply a requirement for particular information. Sometimes you might just need to satisfy your own peace of mind.
"What kind of thing?"
Examples would be - Missing persons/runaways - Looking for a birth parent - DNA paternity testing - Suspicions of infidelity - Proving or disproving a crime - litigation preparation - Missing property - Concerns about a child - Internet stalking - Chat room concerns - Nanny/Au pair vetting - Anti social behaviour - Accusations made about you - Check out a neighbourhood you are considering moving to
"What can you do?"
E&A will discuss your problem or concern with you and decide the best course of action based upon what you tell us and our experience. We can find people, provide evidence to prove or disprove, watch someone, investigate civil matters, find out where people go, provide due diligence, help you keep a check on errant children. Pretty much anything really. Investigators have been commissioned to dig into the background of potential spouses to prevent scams and make sure people are who they say they are. Its unfortunate that we no longer live in an age where we can take people at face value, it usually pays to check people out, we can do that. We have also been asked to compile a report on an area before a buyer commits to a new house, nothing worse than finding out your new dream home is where drunks congregate every evening or the neighbours play music from 1 till 4 in the morning - it does happen. With permission we can do things like monitor the location of your child's mobile so you know where they are. Sometimes there are things you need to know but don't have the time, we can find those things out for you as information brokers. If there is something you want done, the chance is that we can do it.
"Do you work with the Police?"
Very rarely a PI may be asked to work alongside the Police.
Usually a PI will work on civil cases which the police don't
get involved with. PI's do also work on criminal cases,
for instance where a person has been accused of a crime
and wants to prove their innocence or where the Police have
been involved but have greater priorities. Sometimes certain
things need to be proved before the Police can consider
a matter as a crime, a PI might be able to help.
"What do you mean by greater priorities?"
For instance a missing person will not usually have a team of Police searching for them until they are definitely located, after a time period the resources allocated to that search are reduced or stopped it cannot go on indefinitely as the police do not have unlimited manpower. If you report something as stolen the police log it and you may get it back if they come across it. A PI can proactively look for your property if practicable. If you action a civil matter, usually as litigation, the Police are limited in their capacity so do not get involved, as a PI is funded privately we can conduct the investigation instead.
"Can you give me some examples?"
- We have been asked to look over details of accidents to find information that helps with claims or provide doubt in a conviction
- We have been asked to look into rules and regulations for such things as the issuing of fines, there is information out there that many of us don't know how to access. You may have recently heard of a local borough having to reimburse tens of thousands of pounds of incorrectly issued tickets
- We have watched people under suspicion of taking illegal substances or hanging out with the wrong crowd or just making sure they are safe
- We have helped people achieve peace of mind by investigating their suspicions
- We have looked into stalkers in cyber chat rooms who pretend to be something they are not and we have made ourselves available for meetings set up by these stalkers
- We have reunited owners with missing pets
- We have produced reports for home buyers prior to the purchase decision
- We have discouraged 'perverts' from using public places like car parks that are located near houses and families
Send us an email or give us a call with any query you may have, we'll discuss it with you give you an estimate and if you think its OK we'll proceed, otherwise no obligation.
